The Gwili Steam Railway at Bronwydd Arms near Carmarthen is a steam railway maintained by enthusiasts. The nostalgic steam railway travelling through the picturesque Carmarthenshire landscape provides a unique experience.
Gwili Steam Railway - the only standard gauge steam railway in South West Wales
The Gwili Steam Railway is a living reminder of a Great Western Railway branch line set in the breathtaking Carmarthenshire hills. The trip down memory lane starts at Bronwydd Arms Station, and the steam train follows the route, originally taken by the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line to a delightful halt at Danycoed.
A series of film contracts, which have included Carrie’s War and Heidi, were filmed here, endorsing attempts made to recreate a living section of a Great Western Railway branch line in rural West Wales.
This is further reinforced by the friendliness of the volunteer staff.
Bronwydd Arms is the point where you will find the Gwili Railway. Bronwydd is situated just off the A484 approximately 3 miles from the centre of Carmarthen. The Railway is well signposted with brown tourist signs from the A40, A484 and A485. If you are coming from Swansea or points further West, follow the A & E signs until finding the brown tourist signs.
